Hepatoblastoma Biology and Tissue Bank Study

POG 9346: Hepatoblastoma Biology Study and Tissue Bank a Pediatric Oncology Group Study

Protocol ID

00.10.094T

Protocol Description

The purpose of this study is to better understand the causes of hepatoblastoma so as to develop improved methods for treatment, diagnosis and possibly even prevention.  We are interested in studying particular molecules and/or genes, which may be altered in a child's tumor.  The exact molecules or genes to be studied will change over time as progress in cancer research is made. At present, the study of at least three genes is planned. In addition to studying specific genes or molecules, geneticists will analyze the overall genetic content of tumors from some of the children involved in this study. One of the goals of the study is to determine what biological factors within the tumors, including extra chromosomes, might help doctors determine which children will respond best to treatment.  This will hopefully lead to better treatment of hepatoblastoma.
