Special Olympics Kids Get Handmade Scarves for Winter Games

January 5, 2009

Endoscopy nurses at Glen Cove Hospital are hooked on crocheting and helping those in need. Responding to an ad in Crochet! Magazine for hand knit scarves for children competing in this year’s Special Olympics World Winter Games in Boise, ID, a group coworkers decided to crochet for a cause. The blue and white scarves, the specified colors of the games, offer warmth and an extra dose of TLC to challenged athletes competing in alpine and cross-country skiing, figure and speed skating, floor hockey, snow boarding and snowshoe racing. On their time off, seven staffers crocheted 22 cozy scarves. From left to right: Adele DeMeo, RN, Norma Munoz, transporter, and Kathy Koczen, RN.
