North Shore-LIJ to Sponsor Community Health Forum on MRSA, Other Infectious Diseases

The North Shore-LIJ Health System will sponsor a free community health forum on Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) and Clostridium Difficile (C-Difficile) from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, February 4 at North Shore University Hospital’s (NSUH) Rust Auditorium in Manhasset, NY. The forum will feature clinical experts who will discuss what the public needs to know about these two infectious diseases, which have been making headlines across the country. Scheduled speakers include:
- Bruce Hirsch, MD, NSUH Division of Infectious Diseases, who will address such questions as: What is MRSA? How does it interact with people? What are the health risks?
- Bruce Farber, MD, Chief Infectious Diseases, NSUH, who will speak about C-Difficile-associated diseases and their impact on the community and within a hospital.
- Donna Armellino, RN, Director, Infectious Disease Services, North Shore-LIJ Health System, who will talk about practical strategies to prevent the transmission and acquisition of pathogens that can cause infections.
- Lorry G. Rubin, MD, Chief, Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Schneider Children’s Hospital, who will discuss the general topic of MRSA and children.
