Protocol Description

The purpose of this research study is to identify genes that may predispose one to development of autistic disorder. Approximately 1 in 150 children under the age of ten have autistic disorder or autism spectrum disorders. There is evidence to suggest that there are genetics factors that play a major role in the susceptibility to development of autism.

This type of genetic research study can only be performed by analyzing the genes of a large group of families where there is at least one individual with a diagnosed autism.

Eligibility Criteria

Children who have been diagnosed with an autistic disorder and immediate family members (parents or siblings) of a child who has been diagnosed with autistic disorder.
