Biomarkers of Rheumatic Diseases

Biomarkers of Rheumatic Diseases (formerly: Susceptibility Genes and Biomarkers for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Dissection of the MHC Effects of Rheumatiod Arthritis) (GAC 0008)

Protocol ID

02-159/G

Protocol Description

The purpose of this research study, which is being conducted by the North American Rheumatoid Arthritis Consortium (NARAC), is to learn more about genetic factors that may contribute to RA. The cause of RA is not known, but research has indicated it is likely a combination of genetic and environmental factors. We collect blood for serum, plasma, DNA (the genetic material in your cells that you inherit from your parents), along with your health information in order to study cellular, biochemical and/or genetic function in people who have autoimmune diseases and their unaffected family members.

Eligibility Criteria

Since this is a family study, it is necessary that the patient with RA and both biological parents (the trio) choose to participate.
