Germ Cell Tumor Study

COG #AGCT0132 A Phase lll Study of Reduced Therapy in the treatment of Children With Low and Intermediate Risk Extracranial Germ Cell Tumors

Protocol ID

03.10.173T

Protocol Description

The overall goal of this study is to find out the effects, good and/or bad, of reducing the standard chemotherapy regimen for germ cell patients. When chemotherapy is reduced, fewer side effects from chemotherapy are experienced. This study will test if reducing the amount of chemotherapy given to intermediate risk tumor patients and not giving chemotherapy to low risk patients will result in the same high survival rate. A secondary goal of the study is to understand the biology of germ cell tumors better.  Researchers would like to know more about the genetic factors that affects the development of germs cell tumors.  Patients will be asked in a separate consent whether they would like to participate in the biology studies and a germ cell tumor specimen bank for future research.
