Protocol Description
The specific purpose of the TrialNet Natural history Study of the Development of Type 1 Diabetes is to learn more about how type 1 diabetes occurs. Close blood relatives are at more risk for type 1 diabetes than others. Relative of people with type 1 diabetes have a 10 to 15 times greater risk for the disease than people with no family history. Because of this, we are screening only close blood relatives of people with type 1 diabestes. This includes brothers, siters, partents, children, cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandchildren of people wth type of 1 diabetes. Some patients enrolled in the Natural History study may later by eligible to enter separate diabetes prevention trials sponsored by TrialNet.
