Protocol Description

The purpose of this study is to determine: 1) if patients with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder who have had a worsening of symptoms in the past 12 months maintain better control of the symptoms of their illness by taking an antipsychotic medication, risperidone microspheres (Risperdal Consta®), by injection or by taking any of the other available “atypical” (second generation) antipsychotics by mouth.2) which medication is most effective for preventing relapse and 3) if there are differences in a person’s social, educational, and work involvement that are related to the type of medication being taken.

Eligibility Criteria

Patients diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder
