Annual event to benefit kids with facial differences

The Hagedorn Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Center at North Shore University Hospital is hosting its fourth annual “Swing For Smiles” golf event on Monday, June 18 at Wheatley Hills Golf Club. The annual fundraiser benefits families and children who are born with facial differences through the Hagedorn Center and also Schneider Children’s Hospital.

“A smile is a wonderful thing and is a natural expression of recognition, warmth and love,” said Pamela Gallagher, MD, the center’s medical director and plastic surgeon. “A baby’s first smile is eagerly awaited, and when it comes, the parents’ hearts are captured forever. Unfortunately, for children born with a cleft lip or cleft palate this universal gesture does not come naturally.”

Formed in 1953, The Hagedorn Cleft Palate Center serves as a referral center for diagnostic, medical and surgical care to infants and children who are born with facial differences. “Swing for Smiles is a fun day of golf and raises money for a good cause,” Dr. Gallagher said.

Registration and breakfast are at 9 a.m. to be followed by a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m., with dinner, awards and a silent auction at 5 p.m. Reservations are limited to 120 golfers. Registration is $500 per golfer and includes: golf, carts, caddies, breakfast, lunch, dinner, prizes and awards. Dinner only reservations are also available. For more information and to help make a difference, call the Hagedorn Cleft Center at 516-466-2990.
