Gear Up Games
May 12, 2008
Students Brendan Carey, left, and Alfredo Ruiz of Long Island Lutheran Schools in Brookville race to “buckle-up” with the aid of Nassau County Safe Kids’ Coalition volunteer Chris Mistron. The relay was part of the Gear Up Games, a series of activities and hands-on learning tours that educated about fire, water, car, sports and first-aid safety. More than 150 students from the Maria Regina School in Seaford and Long Island School attended the event, designed to educate “tweens” about injury prevention and safety. It was sponsored by the Nassau County Safe Kids Coalition and its lead agency, the North Shore-LIJ Health System, and held at the Nassau County Cradle of Aviation/Fire Fighters Museum in Garden City.
