Ovarian Cancer - Banking for Future Research

TAP 0604:  Collection of Blood for Ovarian Cancer-Associated Antibody Testing and Banking for Future Research

Protocol ID

07-022T

Protocol Description

This study is part of the Tissue Donation Program, at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, in the North Shore-LIJ Health System.  The Tissue Donation Program (TDP) oversees a data, tissue and blood bank, developed to support research on different diseases and conditions.  The TDP collects and stores many types of samples, along with health history information from participants.  These samples and data are made available to scientists for use in medical research studies, however participants’ names or other identifying information are not given to the scientists.

The purpose of the research is two-fold:

1. To collect blood and information to study antibodies associated with ovarian cancer. Antibodies are molecules which bind foreign factors present in the body.  We believe that ovarian tumors release foreign factors that will be recognized by these antibodies.  We hope these studies will lead to the development of new and effective diagnostic tests for ovarian cancer during early stages of disease.  This research will be done by Lab Discoveries, a for-profit company located in Israel.

2. To collect and store blood samples, pathological tissue samples and information at theTDP tissue bank (at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research), to be used in future studies, which may or may not be related to ovarian cancer.
