Hearing Loss - Genetic Factors Study

Genetic Factors in Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss and Autoimmune Hearing Loss

Protocol ID

07.08.088

Protocol Description

This study involves collecting blood from patients who have received oral or intratympanic steroids for sudden or autoimmune hearing loss. We hypothesize that genetic factors may have influenced the ability to respond to the steroid therapy received. We will correlate variations in patient genes that may be involved in response to inflammation to prior response to steroid therapy.

Blood samples collected for this study will be used by researchers at NSLIJHS and their collaborators to study genetic factors involved in hearing loss. Information from this research study may be helpful to improve, predict, diagnose and/or provide treatment of autoimmune sensorineural hearing loss.
