Osteonecrosis of the Jaw

Trans PBRN Case-Control Study of Osteonecrosis of the Jaw

Protocol ID

07.08.127

Protocol Description

Osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) is a disease in which areas of the jaws are affected by a disorder of altered bone growth. The purpose of this study is:

  1. To investigate whether treatment with the medication bisphosphonates (BP) is a risk factor for osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). This will be done by reviewing patients' dental charts and by asking them to respond to a telephone survey.
  2. To investigate whether dental diseases, particularly periodontal or gum disease, and dental procedures such as tooth extractions are real risk factors for ONJ, or whether these procedures are a consequence of the disease.

Eligibility Criteria

People who have experienced osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) in the past or people without ONJ
