On June 30, Schneider Children's Hospital (SCH) opened a new pediatric emergency center located on the hospital's campus straddling Queens and Nassau counties. Featuring 11 state-of-the-art private exam rooms (including two isolation rooms), the new unit is the home of the Rudolph Pediatric Emergency Center, named in honor of Scott Rudolph of Upper Brookville, NY, who contributed generously toward the project. SCH treats about 24,000 emergency patients annually, reaffirming the importance of a dedicated pediatric emergency department staffed by full-time pediatricians. Cutting the ribbon on the new center were, from left: Joy Nagelberg, MD, chief of pediatric emergency medicine at SCH; Carolyn Quinn, RN, associate executive director for patient care services at SCH; Eric Chaiken, the hospital's associate executive director for operations; Philip Lanzkowsky, MD, executive director and chief of staff at SCH; Mr. Rudolph; Michael Dowling, president and CEO of the North Shore-LIJ Health System; and Fredrick Z. Bierman, MD, chairman of pediatrics. |
