Dawn Frank, RN, BSN, IBCLC, center, a nurse at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) and founder of the Long Island Lactation Consultant Association, was recently honored as one of three national inductees to the 2007-2008 Lactation Consultant Hall of Excellence. Chosen from a pool of approximately 75 nominees, an anonymous panel of judges chose the winners based on a series of strict guidelines including certifications, affiliations, credentials, the development of programs and community outreach, volunteer experience, published works, and active speaking and advocacy campaigns—all geared toward nurturing the mother-baby relationship after birth. Ms. Frank received a trophy, plaque, pin, national recognition and a $5,000 check as part of her induction, which marked a unique success for North Shore University Hospital (NSUH), becoming the nation’s only hospital to boast two out of six members of the Lactation Consultation Hall of Excellence. Long Island Jewish Medical Center (LIJ) nurse Sylvia Delaney, far right, received the honor last year.
