Dawn Frank, RN, BSN, IBCLC, center, a nurse at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) and founder of the Long Island Lactation Consultant Association, was recently honored as one of three national inductees to the 2007-2008 Lactation Consultant Hall of Excellence. Chosen from a pool of approximately 75 nominees, an anonymous panel of judges chose the winners based on a series of strict guidelines including certifications, affiliations, credentials, the development of programs and community outreach, volunteer experience, published works, and active speaking and advocacy campaigns—all geared toward nurturing the mother-baby relationship after birth. Ms. Frank received a trophy, plaque, pin, national recognition and a $5,000 check as part of her induction, which marked a unique success for North Shore University Hospital (NSUH), becoming the nation’s only hospital to boast two out of six members of the Lactation Consultation Hall of Excellence.
