Protocol Description

Lupus is a chronic, inflammatory autoimmune disorder. It may affect the skin, joints, kidneys, and other organs. Lupus can cause joint pain, arthritis, inflammation of organs, skin rashes, sensitivity to light, muscle aches, seizures, and chest pain.

The purpose of this study is to test the safety and effectiveness of an experimental drug called belimumab. We want to find out whether it is effective, and if so, how effective it is in people with lupus. This study will look at how people react to and how the body uses belimumab at different doses.
