Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Study

A Phase II, Multicenter, Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Parallel Dose Study of R935788 in Systematic Lupus Erythematosus Patients with Active Disease

Protocol ID

08-02-207

Protocol Description

Lupus is a very complicated inflammatory autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks other parts of the body, and many organs and cells can be involved. Lupus may affect the skin, joints, kidneys, and other organs, and cause joint pain, arthritis, inflammation of organs, rashes, sensitivity to light, muscle aches, seizures, and chest pain. Researchers want to find out if an experimental drug called R788 can help people with lupus. R788 blocks a protein called Spleen Tyrosine Kinase (referred to as syk). Syk is involved in the transmission of signals inside cells involved in the autoimmune processes of lupus. Hopefully, blocking Syk will prevent lupus from worsening and improve patients' symptoms.

In this study, R788 will be given to see if it is safe and tolerable and can help decrease the symptoms of lupus.
