Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia - Ginseng Extract Study

CCCWFU #98308: A Phase III Randomized Double Blind Placebo Controlled Trial of North American Ginseng Extract to Prevent Respiratory Infection and Reduce Antibiotic Use in Patients with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Protocol ID

08-264

Protocol Description

This study is being done because chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)  compromises the immune system (the body is unable to defend itself against viruses and bacteria) resulting in an increased risk of infection. CVT-E002; COLD-fX® (a natural product, an extract from North American ginseng) is being tested to determine if it will prevent respiratory infection (colds and flus) and reduce antibiotic use in patients with CLL during the winter season. The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and effectiveness of CVT-E002, compared to  placebo treatment (inactive powder and pill).
