Prediction of Relapse in Schizophrenia

Protocol ID

08-278

Protocol Description

The purpose of this research study is to obtain a blood sample, in order to analyze the DNA of patients with schizophrenia.  The PROACTIVE research team will look at the DNA to see if it might help us understand how antipsychotic medications work in individual patients.  This research could someday assist us in developing better treatments that might help prevent a recurrence of symptoms in persons with schizophrenia.

In addition to the specific use of DNA as stated, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) would like to help other scientists learn more about how genes affect the development of schizophrenia. This study involves gathering medical information and genetic material, or DNA, from persons with a diagnosis of schizophrenia in order to help make this research possible.

Eligibility Criteria

Schizophrenia patients who are participating in the Relapse Prevention: Long-Acting Atypical Antipsychotics (PROACTIVE) research study.
