LIJ Opens Coronary Care Unit

| LIJ Medical Center recently celebrated the opening of a 14-bed Coronary Care Unit, which marked the final phase of a $27.5 million construction project that added 40 new critical care beds to the hospital.
The Coronary Care Unit is located on top of LIJ's new Emergency Department and next to the hospital's existing Cardiac Catheterization Suite. The strategic location of the 8,000-square-foot unit significantly enhances the hospital’s ability to care for critically ill cardiac patients. Among other features, the unit includes:
• Decentralized nurse work stations located directly in front of patients' rooms. With computer access and monitoring equipment at the bedside, nurses have immediate access to vital clinical data, allowing them to reach patients and emergency equipment rapidly whenever quick action is necessary. • Single-patient rooms furnished with comfortable sofas and chairs so family members can stay with their loved ones.
