Orthopedics at Forest Hills Hospital is Tops in Queens, According to US News & World Report Survey

August 20, 2008
Forest Hills Hospital received the highest score of any Queens hospital in orthopedic quality of care, according to the recent 2008 U.S News & World Report Ranking of America’s Best Hospitals. Forest Hills Hospital scored higher than its Queens competitors in the U.S. News score, which summarizes overall quality of inpatient care. One-third of the score is based on reputation, one-third on mortality rate and one-third on factors such as patient volume, nursing care and technology.

Richard Seldes, MD, chief of orthopedics at Forest Hills, said the hospital recently added hip arthroscopy and computer-assisted navigation for knee and hip replacement to its impressive array of innovative programs and services in orthopedics.

“Forest Hills continues to attract top-notch, fellowship-trained surgeons, including specialists in sports medicine, hand and total joint, as well as general orthopedics,” Dr. Seldes said. “We are committed to building the premier orthopedics hospital in Queens and we believe our scores in the recent U.S. News and World Report survey reflect that commitment.”

He said the specialists at Forest Hills are seeing more and more orthopedic issues among the baby boom generation, which accounts for a tremendous period of growth in the specialty.

“Many people are leading more active lives and are working well into their seventies,” Dr. Seldes explained. “They’re not content with being on the sidelines because of age or injury. That’s where a top-notch orthopedic program like ours comes into play. With minimally invasive techniques available for many procedures, patients are recovering quicker and are back to their normal lives sooner than before.”

Forest Hills Hospital’s Department of Orthopedics continually pioneers new services and technologies to provide better outcomes, minimize discomfort and improve quality of life for its patients. It provides a full complement of musculoskeletal care from one convenient Queens location. For more information, call 718-830-1154.
