NSLI 0817: A Phase 2 Study of Cisplatin + Pemetrexed + Avastin (bevacizumab) as First Line Therapy in patients with Advanced Non-Squamous Nonsmall Cell Lung Carcinoma

Protocol ID

09-004

Protocol Description

The primary goal of this study is to determine whether a combination of certain chemotherapy drugs - cisplatin,  pemetrexed, and  Avastin,  when  given  to  recently  diagnosed  patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC),  can  lengthen  the  time  it  takes  their tumor  to  grow  and  therefore  make  them  live  longer.

This  study  is  being  conducted  in  order  to  determine  1) whether  this  drug  combination  is  safe,  2) what possible  sideeffects  there  might  be  and,  3) whether  or  not  the  combination  of  these  3  drugs  is  at  least  as effective  as  Avastin  in  combination  with  carboplatin  and  paclitaxel  for  the  treatment of  NSCLC.
