Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (IPS) and Psychiatric Disorders
Protocol ID
Protocol Description
The overall aim of the project is to generate and evaluate tools and methods to help us understand basic human brain development. This will potentially identify various functional and molecular differences between those diagnosed with psychiatric disorders and those without such diagnoses. In order to do this, the materials we will collect from you will allow us to develop a type of cell (induced pluripotent stem cell) that can be used to make other kinds of cells, such as ones that make up much of the brain. We can then test these cells for different characteristics that may help us to understand the differences between people with major psychiatric disorders and people who do not suffer from them. Ultimately, we may be able to use these cells to guide treatment of these disorders or to possibly predict and/or prevent the development of these disorders.
Eligibility Criteria
