North Shore-LIJ Health System and New Island Hospital Sign Clinical Affiliation Agreement
Collaboration to Focus on Clinical Initiatives to Improve Community Healthcare The North Shore-LIJ Health System today announced the signing of a clinical affiliation agreement with New Island Hospital in Bethpage.
"The new affiliation provides a great opportunity to share resources and expertise with our colleagues in the close knit communities in which we deliver healthcare,” said Michael J. Dowling, president and chief executive officer of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. “As Long Island’s largest healthcare provider, the North Shore-LIJ Health System will collaborate with New Island on quality initiatives to enhance its clinical programs.”
As a clinical affiliate, New Island will collaborate with North Shore-LIJ on clinical programs, but will remain independent and continue to be responsible for its own operations, governance, assets and liabilities. “This is a great moment in New Island Hospital’s history,” said Aaron E. Glatt, MD, president and chief medical officer of New Island, a 223-bed acute-care community hospital. “This affiliation will enable us to even better serve our wonderful community and enhance our already excellent services.” Jack Howlett, New Island’s chairman, thanked New Island’s executive leadership, CEO & Chief Operating Officer Giovanni V. Distefano, Dr. Glatt and Chief Financial Officer Drew Pallas for their efforts in making this day possible and thanked fellow board members for their “great civic interest” in ensuring continued access to quality healthcare for residents of Bethpage, Farmingdale, Massapequa and other local communities served by the hospital, including more than 37,000 emergency patients every year.
