New Facility is Hospital’s Second Consultation Center in Brooklyn To further its mission of reaching New York area children in need of the finest medical care, Schneider Children’s Hospital today announced the opening of a Pediatric Specialty Center in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. This is the second subspecialty center the hospital has opened in Brooklyn -- the first opened in Bensonhurst in 2004. A ceremony commemorating the opening took place on October 9 at the new facility, located at 158 Broadway in Williamsburg. Philip Lanzkowsky, MD, executive director and chief of staff at Schneider Children’s Hospital (SCH), Fredrick Bierman, MD, the hospital’s chairman of pediatrics, and other hospital officials and community-based pediatricians were joined by 25 community representatives, including rabbis from throughout the Williamsburg community. Under the direction of Michael LaCorte, MD, the 3,200-square-foot Williamsburg Consultation Center provides an array of medical services staffed by seven pediatricians who are specialists in a wide range of medical conditions, including adolescent medicine, allergy/immunology, cardiology, endocrinology, neurology, gastroenterology and general surgery. It is expected that the new center will see between 1,000 and 1,500 patient visits in its first year. “The essence of a children’s hospital is to gather, under one roof, a galaxy of professionals dedicated to overcoming children’s illnesses with the highest levels of medical expertise and modern technology,” said Dr. Lanzkowsky. “Over the past 25 years, we have met this goal in the Queens and Long Island areas. It is very gratifying to now be able to bring the same level of expertise to the children of Brooklyn.” Since it first opened its doors in 1983, Schneider Children’s Hospital in New Hyde Park, NY, has earned the reputation of being a premiere children’s hospital in the New York metropolitan area – recently, it was ranked among the top 25 in the nation in U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals” issue. In addition to its main facilities on the campuses of Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park and North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, Schneider Children’s Hospital has six consultation centers in Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island and Manhattan. SCH’s new Williamsburg Consultation Center in Brooklyn was designed as a convenient resource for local pediatricians, family practitioners and families with children. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call (718) 302-0164. Schneider Children’s Hospital is part of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Health System, which has 16 hospitals throughout Queens, Long Island and Staten Island.
