North Shore-LIJ Appoints New Thoracic Surgeon

Dr. Yun has extensive experience in minimally invasive thoracic surgery techniques, as well as thoracic oncology and lung transplantation. He will be performing surgeries at LIJ Medical Center in Queens, North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, and Forest Hills, Glen Cove and Plainview hospitals. Born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, Dr. Yun is fluent in Spanish, Chinese and English. His proficiency in both languages will assist North Shore-LIJ in its outreach efforts to culturally diverse communities, including Chinatown and Flushing, as well as Nassau, Suffolk and Queens counties. Before joining the North Shore-LIJ, Dr. Yun was associate surgical director of the Lung Transplantation Program at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in Manhattan, assistant professor at Mount Sinai’s School of Medicine, chief of the Asian Thoracic Oncology Program and director of the Thoracic Surgery Satellite Program for the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Yun received his MD degree from New York University (NYU) School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in general surgery. He then went on to receive a research fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at NYU Medical Center, as well as another fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery.
