Babies Memorial
Hailey Bergholm, 7, and brothers Ryan, 8, and Jack, 4, of Port Jefferson Station, plant bulbs in the Babies Memorial Garden at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset in memory of their baby brother Kyle, who died about nine years ago. The Bergholms were among about 200 people who turned out recently for the hospital's annual Pregnancy and Infant Loss Memorial Service. The program included a keynote by Long Island resident Jeanne Beggins, author of A Book of James, which recounted her experiences in dealing with the impending death of her infant son. The memorial service also featured a candle-lighting ceremony, a recitation of names of babies who died during pregnancy, child birth or infancy, and the dedication of bricks with the babies' names on them in the Babies Memorial Garden.
