North Shore-LIJ Unveils $4.3M Outpatient Imaging Center at Glen Cove

To meet the growing demand for the highest quality diagnostic imaging and testing services in local communities, the North Shore-LIJ Health System has opened a newly renovated $4.3 million, 4,000-square-foot outpatient imaging center at 10 Medical Plaza.
“We are pleased to offer patients cutting-edge imaging services and the highest quality clinical care with close-to-home patient convenience and superior customer service,” said Dennis Connors, executive director of Glen Cove Hospital. The center’s redesign provides patients with a streamlined check-in process and a comfortable and modern waiting room. The imaging areas are equipped with satellite work stations, which bring radiologists and technologists closer to patients. New to the facility is a Siemen’s Biograph 40-slice PET/CT scanner, which is used together to pinpoint and assess disease. The CT scan provides information about the body’s anatomy. The PET scan measures metabolic activity. Together, these scans can help physicians not only to identify the exact size and location of a tumor, but also detect whether cancer has spread to other parts of the body. “The PET/CT technology increases the center’s capabilities and is considered the gold standard for cancer staging,” said Steven Weck, MD, chairman of radiology at Glen Cove Hospital. “The center provides patients with a range of services, from a simple sonogram to the most complex scan, and in a convenient, outpatient setting.” The facility upgraded to a Siemens Avanto 1.5T high-field MRI further enhancing imaging capabilities. With the new MRI, imaging can be conducted of the abdominal organs and extremities, as well more detailed imaging of the brain and spinal cord. As with all North Shore-LIJ imaging sites, radiologists and referring physicians are digitally connected to a picture archive communications system so they may view images via computer at their offices or any remote location.
