The North Shore-LIJ Laboratories opened its doors in early 1998, occupying a new facility and employing state-of-the-art robotics. Located in Lake Success, the Laboratory is a fully automated, 60,000- square foot institution that offers both routine and esoteric testing services. Our customers include: physician practices, network and non-network hospitals, nursing homes, and the bio-medical industry. The scope of specialty testing includes: flow cytometry, special coagulation, molecular diagnostics, complex microbiology, virology, endocrinology, toxicology, cytogenetics, molecular genetics, cytology, and anatomic pathology.

The Laboratory takes great pride in our integration efforts with the NS-LIJ Health System Laboratories. Most NS-LIJ Network hospital laboratory equipment and Information Systems are standardized with the Laboratory making reference ranges and methods seamless. The result is a continuum of care that is not possible with any other laboratory. Being part of the NS-LIJ Health System also gives us the ability to direct biopsies and cytology specimens to the Network Laboratory of your choice.

This team has developed monitors to track and maintain quality throughout the system. Our goal is to meet and exceed Six Sigma standards and continually strive to reduce errors in the clinical process. In addition to our commitment to quality, the Laboratory has an equally strong commitment to fair, ethical business practices and compliance with all laws and regulations affecting laboratory practice. Friendly and experienced couriers assure your samples arrive at the Laboratory on time to assure the highest test quality. Frontline, a “FedEx” style electronic tracking system, is used by our Courier Department to ensure the timely pick-up and delivery of your specimens.
In addition to our excellent support services, the Laboratory also offers: Home Care Phlebotomy, Patient Service Centers, and STAT testing. Our STAT testing turnaround time is less than 4 hours from time of call, which is unprecedented in this region.

In-office, computerized test ordering and insurance based specimen routing have become industry standard. The Laboratory responded in 2003 with the implementation of ePathLink. ePathLink is an in-office web based order entry system which links the physician’s office directly to the laboratory. This system virtually eliminates errors in specimen routing and improves office efficiencies. Unlike any other laboratory system, ePathLink gives the clinician the ability to view inpatient as well as outpatient results. |
