Amit Powar
Attending hospital meetings and completing my rotations helped me not only to build professional relationships with individuals from other areas, but also gave me a better understanding of the culture and operations in a large tertiary hospital.
Learning about various new Long Island Jewish Medical Center initiatives helped me select my projects. I have worked on assignments such as starting a bariatric surgery program and an IV admixture program, assessing the feasibility of applying for Level I trauma center and inventory clean-up for the Materials Management Department.
In the sixth month of my fellowship, I was offered the position of a Six Sigma Black Belt for LIJ. I am training for the position at the health system's Center for Learning and Innovation and using the methodology on various projects within the hospital.
