Dr. Andrew Sama, senior vice president of emergency medicine for the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, was chosen president-elect of the 29,000-member American College of Emergency Physicians during the Irving, Texas-based organization's annual Scientific Assembly being held through Tuesday in San Francisco. Dr. David Seaberg took over as president. Sama, 56, served as president of ACEP's New York chapter from 2002 to 2004, according to a news release.

Sama was also reelected to the ACEP board of directors along with Dr. Andrew Bern, an attending physician at Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach, Fla. New board members elected were: Dr. Paul Kivela, managing partner of Napa Valley Emergency Medical Group, Napa, Calif.; and Dr. Robert O'Connor, physician-in-chief of the department of emergency medicine at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville) Health System, according to a news release. Seaberg, 51, is a professor and dean of the University of Tennessee (Chattanooga) College of Medicine and has been a member the ACEP board since 2005. He previously served as the president of the Florida College of Emergency Physicians, according to a news release.
