Arthur Klein, MD

Senior Vice President of Children's Services and Regional Executive Director, Western Region North Shore-LIJ Health System


Dr. Klein is responsible for the quality and growth of the children’s services line, including all pediatric programs and services, both inpatient and ambulatory.

He is regional executive director of North Shore-LIJ’s Western Region which includes Lenox Hill Hospital; the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Institute; Staten Island University Hospital’s North and South sites, and the proposed Center for Comprehensive Care in lower Manhattan. In this role, his responsibilities include coordinating activities within the region to focus on building physician partnerships and looking for new opportunities for growth and investment.

Previously, Dr. Klein also served as executive director and chief of staff, Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York.

Dr. Klein came to North Shore-LIJ from Lifespan Corporation, Providence, RI, where he was senior vice president and chief physician officer. Also, he was associate dean for strategy and special projects at the Warren Alpert Medical School, Brown University. Prior to this, he served at New York Presbyterian Hospital as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the New York Presbyterian Healthcare System. He began his career in pediatrics at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, where he completed his residency and fellowship in pediatric cardiology, and where his last position was executive vice chairman
of the Department of Pediatrics.

Dr. Klein has held several academic appointments, including professor of clinical pediatrics and professor of clinical public health at Weill Medical College–Cornell University. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Cardiology, and has written and presented extensively on pediatric cardiology.

Dr. Klein received his medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, and a bachelor’s degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA.
