North Shore-LIJ Health System's Center for Emergency Services in Syosset, the largest hospital-based ambulance service in the New York Metropolitan area and one of the largest in the nation, recently hosted a luncheon for more than 100 cyclists who took part in the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride's 2011 East Coast Bike leg which memorializes and celebrates the lives of Emergency Medical Services personnel who serve every day, have become sick or injured while performing their duties, and those who have died in the line of duty. This year's ride highlights the 65 EMS workers killed in the line of duty last year, and offers special recognition of the EMS workers from Long Island who died in the line of duty.
