The Zucker Hillside Hospital’s Center for Treatment and Research in Bipolar Disorder provides specialized care for patients and families. The first program of its kind in the region, the Center provides a unique outpatient program that helps people diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder to function optimally. The multi-disciplinary clinical team offers expertise in state-of-the-art diagnostic assessment, psychopharmacological treatments and emerging evidence-based psychotherapies.

As part of our commitment to the delivery of cutting edge care for the treatment of Bipolar Disorder, evaluation and treatment at the Center includes:

• A comprehensive review of  past history, including clinical course and prior effects of different treatment modalities
• Standardized assessments designed to carefully monitor current treatment response
• Shared decision-making with patients, and, where appropriate, family members and referring doctors
• Education and supportive resources for patients and families
• Access to novel treatments for those patients for whom more traditional approaches have failed
• Strategies to help overcome obstacles to consistent medication compliance
• The opportunity to participate in innovative research

Dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about Bipolar Disorder, the Center partners closely with Zucker Hillside’s internationally renowned Psychiatric Research Department, a Division of North Shore-LIJ’s Feinstein Institute, to offer patients and families opportunities to voluntarily enroll in exciting research studies. These projects include the prevention or minimization of medication side effects, weight management, studies on possible genetic influences, trials of new medications, and new techniques in brain imaging.
