Clinical Cardiology Research
Course Director: Stanley Katz, M.D.
This elective provides the student with an opportunity to join an active clinical cardiology research group. The student will participate in ongoing research protocols designed to quantify the magnitude of acute myocardial infarction in man. These systems include: 1) CK-MB washout curves; 2) ejection fraction, as determined by radioisotopic techniques; 3) thallium-201 myocardial perfusion scintigrams; and, 4) ultra-high data-rate cardiac digital subtraction. Algorithms are run on two computer systems: one PDP 11/60 and a VAX 11/780 with dual memory. The VAX involves bench microelectronic research. Assessment of coronary artery reperfusion following acute myocardial infarction will be performed on the above systems.
