Clinical Ladder
In July of 2007, we instituted the clinical ladder, a professional career advancement recognition program, for its’ registered nurses working at the bedside.
The clinical ladder is a three-tiered system - RN I, RN II and RN III - that helps to acknowledge nurses that go above and beyond. Each designation is based on achievements met in five areas: research, education, quality, service excellence and leadership. Examples of these achievements may include but are not limited to: assisting in or heading a research project, obtaining and maintaining certifications in a specialty area, patient education, mentoring, developing tools to better patient care and taking on leadership roles.
The first group of clinical ladder appointees at North Shore University Hospital were recognized at a pinning ceremony on December 6, 2007. There were eleven nurses representing the NICU, the delivery room, the Don Monti Cancer Center and the Center for Tobacco Control. Chief Nurse Executive Dr. Kathleen Capitulo was on hand to congratulate them on their achievements.
