Services Provided
The Emergency Department at Syosset Hospital is a 10-bed facility with 15,000 annual visits from the surrounding areas. Emergency care is available 24 hours a day.
Scope and Complexity of Care
All persons who present themselves to the Emergency Department requesting care are treated. Conditions treated include, but are not limited to:
- Minor trauma
- Pneumonia
- Cardiac arrest
- CVA
- Cardiac disease
- GI bleed
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Lacerations
- Angina
- Fractures
- Respiratory distress
- Epistaxis
- Alleged sexual assault
- Child abuse
- Emotional or psychiatric conditions
Patients who are treated are either discharged home, admitted or transferred.
The Emergency Room is a 911 receiving hospital for both police and voluntary ambulance services in Nassau County.
Staffing
- Nurse Staffing – The ED is staffed by registered nurses who demonstrate specialized skill in emergency patient care. They are currently licensed in NYS and are ACLS Certified.

MD Staffing – The Emergency Department is staffed 24 hours a day by Board Certified emergency physicians who are responsible for the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and disposition of all patients who present in the Emergency Department. Emergency Department physicians are certified in Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS).

House Physicians – with critical care competency are available to support the Emergency Department as needed.
