End Stage Renal Disease Programs

The End Stage Renal Disease programs at the North-Shore LIJ Health System provide life-maintaining dialysis therapy to patients’ whose kidneys no longer can clear the body of the burden of the daily accumulation of salt, water, and waste chemicals. The two outpatient satellite facilities participate in the government sponsored public reporting of information which gives an indication of how the patients are doing who dialyze at North Shore-LIJ.

The areas that the government has chosen to highlight include patient survival, achieved red blood cell counts (a measure of how a condition called anemia has been addressed), and what percentage of patients reach the target for removal of the waste material from the blood. The Medicare website (linked below) goes into more detail about why these were chosen and how the consumer might use the information. The End Stage Renal Disease Programs at the North Shore-LIJ Health System use these and other measures in our continuing efforts to improve the care we deliver and to enhance the quality of our patients’ lives.
