WANTAGH, NY — Mark your calendar for the 2nd annual Every Woman Matters: A Walk for Women and Their Families on May 22, 2011. Last year’s walk was attended by well over 4,000 people and we expect this year’s attendance to be even greater. The walk will take place, rain or shine, at Jones Beach State Park in Wantagh, field 5. Proceeds from the 5K walk will benefit the new Katz Institute for Women's Health and Katz Women's Hospitals of North Shore-LIJ Health System.

Hosted jointly by North Shore-LIJ and the Commerce & Industry Council, the 3.1-mile walk is open to women, men and children of all ages. It will feature exhibitions, hands-on activities and giveaways for the whole family. Refreshments and musical entertainment will round out the morning. The walk is being supported by title sponsors LIREG (Long Island Real Estate Group) and Dottie Herman and Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate along with many other generous individual and corporate sponsors.

Last year the walk was attended by moms, dads, kids, grandmas and grandpas and brought our community together for the day. “Those who entered The Katz Institute for Women’s Health Showcase came out with a better understanding of the services that the North Shore-LIJ Health System has to offer our community,” says Neeta M. Shah, MD, FACP, vice president of women’s health services for North Shore-LIJ Health System. “This year, our walk promises to be even bigger and better, and will provide even more information.”

Committed to the advancement of women’s health, North Shore-LIJ Health System has made significant progress on the Katz Women’s Hospital at both LIJ Medical Center in New Hyde Park and North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, offering an unparalleled experience to women of every age and background. In spaces specially designed for women, Katz Women’s Hospitals will offer a full range of obstetrical and gynecological services, with state-of-the-art technology and amenities. Construction for the Katz Women’s Hospital at North Shore will be completed in phases, the first to conclude this year. We look forward to the opening at LIJ in 2012.

The Katz Institute for Women’s Health offers help in navigating through the many community health and wellness activities and events being held throughout the health system. The Institute will provide information about support groups, research and groundbreaking clinical trials.
