Nursery: Level 2 at Forest Hills
The Level 2 Nursery is a highly specialized unit, providing care to neonates requiring specialized care. The unit's equipment and supplies are geared to the needs of these infants and the staff is specially trained. A multi-disciplinary approach of care is practiced. Patients have unlimited visiting in order to enable them easy access to their infants and to reduce separation trauma. The Level 2 staff will assess, evaluate and plan, teach and care for newborns from birth to their discharge.
This benefits the community and patients greatly, as we are providing a service that was previously unavailable. In the past we would have to transfer these special-needs babies to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, thereby separating mother and baby. In addition, high-risk pregnancies could not be handled at our hospital, and in such cases, the pregnant women had to travel to a different hospital. Now all obstetrical care will be provided at one place. Patients can be assured that their primary care provider will be available, and if they go into labor early, all their care can be provided at our hospital with a safe outcome for mother and baby.
