Nursing at Forest Hills
The Department of Nursing at Forest Hills Hospital reflects a diverse culture and population. Our vision is to be the first hospital in Queens to attain Magnet status for excellence and innovation in nursing, and to excel in quality clinical care for our patients. Our nursing units are staffed with registered nurses (RNs), patient care associates (PCAs), support care associates and clerical support associates. Each registered nurse is teamed up with a PCA to render care to her assigned patients. Service excellence is of prime importance to the Department of Nursing. It is introduced at orientation and is followed through on the nursing units.

Obstetrics
We have a state-of-the-art obstetrical unit and our maternity floor is designed with the patient's comfort in mind. Our new labor-delivery-recovery suites not only feature the latest in medical technology but are also beautifully designed. Our modern, spacious nursery is designed to make sure your infant will always be near the watchful eyes and gentle touches of our RNs. Nursery security is a high priority at the New Life Center. Every infant is equipped with a high-tech electronic tracking device so you can be assured that the only people handling your baby will be authorized personnel and you. The New Life Center offers classes in childbirth, Lamaze and breastfeeding in our comfortable post-partum educational lounge. There is physician coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The unit is staffed with highly trained RNs.
Orthopedics
We are pursuing a Center of Excellence in Orthopedics staffed with qualified personnel to take care of your needs before and after surgery. Our modern ambulatory surgery unit provides care for patients who do not require overnight hospitalization. The surgeons are fully trained in the latest procedures and technologies. The RN staff is trained to care for patients of all ages.
Cardiac
The fifth floor houses a 16-bed telemetry unit with monitors in every room and a central monitoring station. The RNs staffing this unit have specialized training to care for patients on cardiac monitors.
Education
Staff education is important to Forest Hills Hospital, so we offer continuing education through our own Education and Training Department, programs offered through the 1199 training and upgrading fund. Efforts are made to accommodate school schedules. We encourage all our nurses to be certified in their area of clinical practice. We have an excellent orientation program that has enhanced our retention rate. New hires are oriented to the clinical unit with a coach and an educator.
