Physical Therapy at Forest Hills

The Physical Therapy Department treats in-hospital patients with a large variety of problems. We specialize in orthopedic surgery, including total hip and knee replacements, internal fixations and spinal surgery. In addition, we aid patients in their recovery process from bariatric surgery. We also work with patients who have had strokes, amputations and heart attacks. Patients with various pulmonary problems are also seen by the department.

Most patients are seen within 24 hours of physician referral, and are all seen within 48 hours. Our physical therapists are licensed, experienced and professional.

The physical therapist, along with the patient’s input, designs a treatment program and sets goals specific to the individual. Working closely with social workers, care coordinators and physicians, we discharge patients as appropriate to their needs.

Many patients who have arthroscopic procedures in ambulatory surgery are also seen by the Physical Therapy Department before discharge.

Joint Center

The Joint Center program is in coordination with the Physical Therapy Department to assess the needs of patients that are undergoing hip and knee replacement surgery. The Physical Therapy Department prepares the patient for surgery, including offering group therapy after surgery to create a more interactive and comfortable environment. On the first day after surgery you will begin physical therapy for exercise, transfers and walking. This is to help speed your recovery and send you to rehabilitation or home.

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is available for inpatients for swallowing and speech problems.
