Franklin Hospital is ranked best on Long Island for joint replacement outcomes according to HealthGrades® the leading independent ratings organization in the U.S. Among the 3,000 hospitals surveyed, Franklin was in the top ten percent overall and the only hospital on Long Island to receive the five-star rating – HealthGrades Joint Replacement ExcellenceTM for 2011. Our Orthopaedic Residency Training Program provides coverage day and night, 365 days a year. Franklin's orthopedic attending staff participates in continuing education of the orthopedic residency trainees with a dual focus on the basics of total orthopedic care combined with education on the most up-to-date procedures and treatments. Orthopedic care is provided in the Emergency Department 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Orthopaedic Surgery Program offers a full range of surgical treatments, from trauma injuries to total joint replacements. Our combination of expertise and utilization of new techniques enables most procedures to be performed as same-day surgery. For patients requiring hospitalization, Franklin offers a dedicated nursing unit for the care of the orthopedic patient.

Franklin Hospital’s Orthopaedic Service Line offers an extensive network of highly skilled surgeons who specialize in all fields of general orthopedic care and surgery, as well as fracture care, sports medicine, total joint replacements and spinal surgery. We combine the expertise and experience of specialists to develop a care plan that fits the needs of each individual. As part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, our experts offer the best in state of- the-art, multidisciplinary orthopedic care to help patients regain mobility and return to active, independent lives. Over the last few years we have created a superior orthopedic center. The orthopaedic surgeons and staff at Franklin Hospital are extremely capable and fully equipped to manage many different musculoskeletal problems, including those of the upper extremity, lower extremity and spine. To complement orthopaedics, a variety of outpatient and clinical services such as physical therapy, radiology and pain management are available to our patients.

Following hospitalization some patients may also require in-patient rehabilitation. For those who qualify, we can facilitate a smooth transition to the Orzac Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation, conveniently located on our campus. We are dedicated to the total care of our patients, from diagnosis through all phases of treatment and recovery. We have developed an orthopedic service line with highly recognized surgeons and a support staff that specializes in orthopedic care. We also have a number of firsts in technologically advanced joint care.

Franklin Firsts:

• The first INBONE Total Ankle Replacement in the greater New York metropolitan area was performed at Franklin Hospital
• The first Total Knee Replacement using the NexGen LPS Flex Mobile Knee Prosthesis in the country was performed at Franklin Hospital.
