Dr. Bierman was appointed chairman of pediatrics in 2006 and has served as associate chairman of pediatrics at Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children's Medical Center of New York since 1992. He is widely regarded as one of the premiere pediatric cardiologists in the New York area and the nation. Dr. Bierman has served as the hospital's chief of pediatric cardiology since 1991.
During his years at Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children's Medical Center of New York, Dr. Bierman has carried out diverse clinical, didactic, and administrative responsibilities. He played a key role in uniting the Divisions of Pediatric Cardiology at Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children's Medical Center of New York and North Shore University Hospital.
Before coming to Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children's Medical Center of New York, Dr. Bierman was director of the Pediatric Echocardiography Laboratory at what was known then as the Babies Hospital at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in Manhattan.
He earned his medical degree from the State University of New York's Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, after getting his BS from Union College, Schenectady, NY. Dr. Bierman completed his residency in pediatrics at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan, and his clinical and research fellowships in pediatric cardiology at Boston Children's Hospital of Harvard University. He has been a professor of pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine since 1992.
