General Surgery Residency Program at NSLIJHS

We are pleased to learn that you are interested in our graduate training program in General Surgery.  In a very short span we have made remarkable strides in all our missions. Our central mission is education and training. Our faculty includes: Corrado P. Marini, MD, FACS, Program Director and Vice-Chair of Education; Brian Pinard, MD, FACS, Vice-Chair, Long Island Jewish Medical Center Campus; Glenn Faust, MD, FACS, Associate Program Director, Long Island Jewish Medical Center Campus and Ping Wang, MD, Vice-Chair of Research.

Consistent with the vision of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, our residency program emphasizes excellence, innovation, growth and human values. This website provides you with the history, philosophy and in-depth understanding of our training program. As you will learn from this website, we strive to produce contemplative surgeons who are lifelong learners, as well as leaders in a constantly changing environment. I hope our prospective residents take advantage of some of the unique features of our health system: first, it is among the largest with a population reach of five million; second, it continues to grow as a network of community, long-term and tertiary facilities; third, it is a leader in health care quality initiatives, having a robust Center for Quality Management; fourth, it functions as one of the best run corporations, emphasizing learning and human capital growth through its one-of-a-kind Center for Learning and Innovation that includes a simulation center; last, but certainly not the least, it has a free standing Research Institute that houses surgical research programs that rival the best in the country.

We take special pride in presenting our department as a Center of Excellence, which will be palpable during your visit. Our full-time and voluntary surgeons work as a team to deliver highest quality of education for our students, residents and fellows.

We invite you to visit the Medical Centers and meet with our house staff and attending faculty. This will provide us with the opportunity to become acquainted and give you a change to see our training program in action.
