Giving from the Heart
GLEN COVE, NY -- To increase community awareness about heart disease and stroke prevention, Glen Cove Hospital recently organized an elaborate raffle in its lobby to raise funds to benefit the American Heart Association’s (AHA) cardiovascular research programs. With 51 local merchants and individuals donating prizes to the hospital’s fourth annual “Chinese Auction,” the event raised a record amount of more than $8,000. On hand to draw tickets was Nancy Magrini, who suffered a stroke in 2005 and received treatment and rehabilitation at Glen Cove Hospital. Ms. Magrini shared her personal story of challenges and recovery, and was reunited with her doctor, nurses and therapists at the event. Ms. Magrini served as a ‘Red Cap’ ambassador for the AHA’s 2009 Long Island Start Heart Walk, which encourages people to live longer, heart-healthy lives through walking.
