Cardiology at Glen Cove
The Division of Cardiology is under the direction of Carl S. Schreiber, MD, FACC, and is staffed by board-certified and board-eligible physicians, and supported by a caring, competent technical staff.
Inpatient and outpatient services include:
- Electrocardiography (EKG)
- Holter (heart rhythm) monitoring
- Echocardiography
- Color Doppler studies
- Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)
- TEE-guided cardioversion
- Treadmill stress test
- Myocardial perfusion stress tests (thallium, cardiolite)
- Pharmacologic stress tests (adenosine, dobutamine)
Cardiology consultations are readily available, and a staff cardiologist is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Division of Cardiology benefits from a close working relationship with North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. Patients requiring invasive studies, such as cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, electrophysiology testing and open heart surgery, can be easily transferred for such tertiary care.
Additionally, division members give educational presentations and lectures to the community and give guidance to the family practice residents.
The inpatient Coronary Care Unit (CCU) is an eight-bed, quiet, modern facility with a dedicated and highly trained professional staff. Special procedures available in CCU include:
- Temporary pacemakers
- Swan-Ganz catheters
- Cardioversions
The adjacent telemetry unit has 12 monitors available for observation of patients’ cardiac rhythms.
The newly opened modern endoscopy suite permits easy and convenient scheduling of transesophageal echocardiograms.
The EKG office is located on the second floor of the hospital, near the elevators.
