Glen Cove Hospital Nurse Wins Diabetes Educator of the Year
GLEN COVE, NY – Margaret Diliberto, RN, CDE, an inpatient diabetes nurse clinician and certified diabetes educator at Glen Cove Hospital, was recently named Diabetes Educator of the Year by the Metropolitan New York Association of Diabetes Educators (MNYADE) at the organization’s annual dinner at the Milleridge Inn in Jericho.
Ms. Diliberto was recognized by MNYADE, a chapter of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, for her expertise, professionalism and creativity in helping individuals with diabetes learn how to effectively manage their disease.
Ms. Diliberto has been involved in diabetes care management for most of her nursing career. In 2003, she joined Glen Cove Hospital, part of the 15-hospital North Shore-LIJ Health System, and serves as the hospital’s inpatient diabetes nurse clinician and nurse educator. In her role at Glen Cove, Ms. Diliberto educates patients and families on self management skills for diabetes and coordinates a monthly community heart/diabetes support group. She also coordinates the hospital’s task force certification for inpatient management of diabetes and serves on the North Shore-LIJ diabetes task force. Ms. Diliberto is the program coordinator of a multidisciplinary taskforce that helped Glen Cove Hospital in 2009 to receive certification for Advanced Inpatient Diabetes Management by The Joint Commission – the first hospital in New York State and only the eight nationwide to receive this distinction.
Prior to joining Glen Cove, Ms. Diliberto was an inpatient diabetes nurse clinician at Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens Diabetes Center in Long Island City and also has experience in home care.
Ms. Diliberto has a BSN from Molloy College and is pursuing a master’s degree as an adult nurse practitioner. She is a member of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, MNYADE and the American Diabetes Association.
