Building Trusting Relationships Through Collaborative Teamwork
In addition to overseeing the treatment of individuals with acute and chronic kidney disease and its associated complications such as anemia and bone disease, the department takes great pride in offering care to patients whose illnesses involve the kidneys such as:
- Diabetes
- Hypertension
- Dialysis
- Consultations
- Kidney biopsy
- Post-transplant care
- Heart failure
- Vascular access
- Polycystic kidney disease
- Kidney stones
Patients with special needs, such as dialysis, are treated according to the highest national and international standards. Each patient is treated as an individual with specific needs and therapeutic goals. A multidisciplinary team approach affords each patient the best medical care possible.
Staff physicians are members of national and international kidney and hypertension societies knowledgeable in the most advanced treatment methods available in the world. We are especially proud of our nursing staff, many of whom hold advanced degrees. Attentive to the individual dialytic needs of each patient, our staff members work closely with nutritionists, pharmacists, home care specialists, physical therapists and social workers in a collaborative manner to approach the whole patient with a global perspective.
Patients with chronic kidney disease are especially fortunate to be able to avail themselves of our multidisciplinary team approach to the complicated and sometimes overwhelming needs that arise during the course of their illness. Experts are at hand to deal with associated medical problems such as anemia, neuropathy, bone disease, nutrition, physical therapy, pharmacological issues and more. Our interest is in prolonging the life of your kidneys and keeping you healthy and productive off dialysis for the longest possible duration. When the time arrives we are there to initiate the dialysis prescription in the most compassionate and dignified manner. When appropriate, our well-versed staff will provide referrals for kidney, kidney/pancreas, and other transplant modalities as medically indicated. In short, we regard our patients as we would ourselves.
