Outpatient rehabilitation at Glen Cove Hospital includes physical, occupational and speech therapy services. Physical Therapy
Physical therapists help people achieve improved health and productivity, and our hands-on therapy is complemented by the latest rehabilitation and strength-building equipment.
Physical therapy offers a wide variety of services for the following diagnosis:
- Amputations
- Arthritis
- Cancer
- Fractures
- Joint replacement or surgery
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Muscle or joint sprains or strains
- Neurological conditions
- Orthopedic injury/surgery
- Parkinson’s disease
- Stroke or head injury

Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy focuses on patients who have impairments that interfere with activities of daily living. The department includes a certified hand therapist who evaluates and treats patients who have impairments of the arm or hand. Conditions may include, but are not limited to:
- Amputations of hand/arm
- Cumulative trauma disorders (e.g., tendonitis, trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome)
- Cancer patients (e.g., post-breast surgery)
- Neurological conditions (e.g., stroke, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis)
- Orthopedic/arthritic conditions
- Peripheral nerve injuries
- Tendon/nerve lacerations
- Traumatic injuries
Services may include:
- Upper extremity splinting
- Therapeutic exercise
- Massage/joint mobilization
- Heat or cold modalities
- Self-care adaptations
The department also offers a comprehensive lymphedema rehabilitation program by certified lymphedema therapists.
Services may include:
- Manual lymph drainage
- Bandaging/compression garment fitting
- Skin/nail care education
- Activities of daily living
Speech Therapy
Speech therapy provides a full range of speech-language pathology services, all aimed at improving a patient’s communication, cognitive and linguistic skills and swallowing abilities. Our therapists provide radiographic imaging technology (modified barium swallow studies) to assess swallowing difficulties and adjust diets accordingly. They are certified in the latest treatment techniques, including VitalStim® therapy.
Services may include assessment and treatment of the following:
- Cognitive-linguistic skills
- Expressive and receptive language skills
- Reading/writing ability
- Speech production
- Swallowing function (dysphagia)
